- Before making a transfer, make sure that the specified details are correct, and whether they relate to the specified company.

Previously a model name
'Jaguar' replaced 'SS' as the marque name for obvious reasons in 1945. William Lyons had founded the Swallow Sidecar Company in Blackpool in 1922
branching out into coachbuilding with a Swallow-bodied Austin Seven in 1926. Re-location to Coventry followed and the Swallow range expanded to include models on Morris Cowley
Wolseley Hornet and Standard Sixteen chassis. Marque status arrived in October 1931 with the launch of the SS1
a close-coupled coupé. The SS1's Lyons-designed chassis was built by Standard
who also supplied the six-cylinder sidevalve engine and four-speed gearbox. The stylish SS1 went some way towards establishing the pattern for future Jaguars
combining as it did sporting good looks with a better-than-average specification and all at a bargain price. 502 SS1s were completed
